Who knew? May 25th is National Wine day–now there is a real reason to drink wine.
I am not much of a drinker. I have never even had a beer and “hard” alcohol does not do it for me. But I do enjoy a glass of wine or two. OK…truth be told..three of four if the occasion calls for it. Chardonnay is my drink of choice but a delicious red wine with the right meal cannot be ignored. Wonderful friends have tutored me throughout the years so I have developed a somewhat discerning palate which simply means I know what I like. I know I do not care for Washington wines (sorry Washington) and don’t even know why. California wines are my favorite but I have not found one from Monterey county that I care for even though I have tried as Monterey is my home town. I do like a dry wine and if it passes the cat hairball test, it is the wine for me. (I cannot even begin to explain that in writing but it is not pretty). And while I am familiar with specific wineries, I do not necessarily know a specific year or release that I prefer. So here is a list from a non-wine aficianado–in other words, just a person who enjoys wine:
- Chalk Hill
- KJ Grand Reserve
- Dare I say it–cupcake. A great, inexpensive wine
So grab a bottle of your favorite wine and meet some friends and celebrate National Wine Day. After all, a good bottle of wine is better when shared with friends.
