Diamonds USED to be my favorite natural stone…until now.

Yes, it’s true.  I have always believed that diamonds were a girl’s best friend and the most beautiful natural stone in the world.  However, my mind has been changed by the installation of my incredibly beautiful granite countertops.  Voila!!

I chose this granite for many reasons.  First and foremost, it was something I had not seen elsewhere.  I do not like to decorate with commonly used items.  It had the warm tones I love but enough cool tones to work with the stainless steel appliances.  While it is difficult to see, this granite has a slight reddish brown vein running through them that really caught my eye.  Red in small doses is one of my favorite accents and actually appears in the contrast welting on the chairs that will be used in the adjoining sitting room.  The granite also has a shiny off-white feature that resembles  mother of pearl that will really highlight the white of the cabinetry and it shines just like diamonds!

closeup of granite…can you spot the red highlights and the “diamonds”?

While I can’t wear this granite on my ears or as a bracelet, I am enjoying the look and feel of it every time I walk into the soon-to-be-kitchen.  We can now believe that this dusty and dirty space will soon become a home.

Design tip:  When purchasing an item that is going to be permanent, be sure to take into consideration all finishes, colors, etc. since you are going to be living with that item for a very long time.  For example, in the kitchen you need to consider your appliances, fixtures, wall color and the adjoining rooms before deciding on a granite color and pattern.
